2019 UPCOMING PERFORMANCES, WORKSHOPS + EVENTS
tiny little get down
Need to let off a little steam? tinypistol's Maurya Kerr and little seismic dance company's Katie Faulkner invite you to the first tiny little get down of the new year. Founded in 2017, the tiny little get down is a dance party for people who love to dance and don't want to have to go to a club and look cool doing it. If you're feeling undone by our state of the union and need a cathartic space that affirms the power of the collective, come sweat, shake, get down, and revel in this subversively joyful dance event designed for all bodies.

DIVINING
Premiering February 14-16, little seismic presents its first evening-length work, Divining, at ODC Theater in San Francisco.
Divining, refers to those ritualistic practices that combine intuition, magic, communion, culture, and, more often than not, the sensations of the body, to seek answers, belonging, and comfort. The intensely disorienting experience of living in this fractured global moment finds many of us digging deep to make meaning and find solace. Our work with this idea has been spacious, spanning a number of inquiries: What states of being, of powerlessness, loss, or hope, compel us to ritualize behavior? How does magic help us cope? How is it that the feeling of knowing can inspire both ecstasy and a hardening of mind? And, what do our bodies know about all of this?
Created in collaboration with dancers Alex Carrington, Chinchin Hsu, Tara McArthur, and Suzette Sagisi as well as composer/sound designer, Ben Juodvalkis, and lighting designer, Allen Willner.
February 14-16, 2019 | 8:00PM | ODC Theater

Long Day’s Journey Into Night
Katie Faulkner is delighted to be acting as choreographer for Oakland-based Ubuntu Theater Project’s production of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night. Widely considered his finest work, O’Neill’s Tony and Pulitzer–winning drama follows the Tyrones—a family shaped by addiction, resentment, and regret—through a single day in August as years of secrets begin to emerge.
Moving through the fractures in a family’s history, from racial alienation to economic insecurity to dreams deferred, Ubuntu Artistic Director Michael Moran helms a dreamlike production that conjures the ghosts of America’s pain, and the genesis of the opioid crisis facing the country today.
Performances October 4-27 | 7:00The Flax Building | Oakland
